The 12th strong typhoon, this year, Nuri, will make a frontal attack on Guangdong Province. On the afternoon of August 20th, after video conferences on fighting against Typhoon Nuri by the State and Provincial Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, Su Zequn, Executive Vice Mayor of Guangzhou City made arrangements on Guangzhou's work of fighting against the typhoon, demanding the anti flood, drought and typhoon system to enter into the windproof status. All the relevant sides should pay high attention to the movement of the typhoon, immediately carry out the inspection on preventing mountain slides, the typhoon elusion of maritime operating personnel and the preparation for emergency rescue and fighting natural calamities, and deploy transnormal typhoon elusion and calamity prevention work to ensure the security of the masses' lives and properties.

At 8:11 on the evening of August 20th, the Guangzhou Municipal Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters promptly launched the Level IV Typhoon Prevention Emergency Plan once the typhoon white warning signal took effect.

Typhoon "Nuri" continued to move Northwest by west at a speed of 23 km/h, which was most likely to land on the littoral between Taishan and Huilai. Affected by "Nuri", the wind power in Panyu and Nansha would gradually increase to Force 7 or Force 9. It will be clear to shower on August 21st in Guangzhou, and thunder storms and rainstorms will begin on August 22nd and 23rd.

According to the introduction by the Guangzhou Municipal Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters, the landing of "Nuri" in the neighborhood of the Pearl River Estuary by west was not ruled out, which might bring serious impact to Guangzhou. The rainfall might also equal that brought by "Fengshen". Therefore, typhoon prevention can not be treated lightly.
